25 Aug 2020
Internal and external building works at the Shearwater Resort at Kings Beach, Caloundra have injected more than $1 million into the Sunshine Coast economy this past year.

The COVID restrictions and lockdowns have provided the perfect storm for the Shearwater Resort complex at Kings Beach, Caloundra which has allowed major building works to be undertaken to upgrade the building's facilities and provide an economic stimulus to the region while lower visitor numbers due to COVID lockdowns restricted holidaymakers coming to the Sunshine Coast.

The major works undertaken at the building have used all local trades from the Sunshine Coast with some support from trades people and businesses from the Northern Rivers area of Brisbane.

The Shearwater building which houses 48 apartments and six commercial businesses including three restaurants, a café, a wellness massage centre and a conference venue has undergone major internal upgrades including foyer, lobby, new lobby toilets and mother's room, a new pool deck bathroom, a new games room and extensive lift renovation. This week sees the completion of the external works and the façade renovation replacing all the building's roofing awnings to create a modern new look to the building.

The roofing awning works which are due to be finished on 31 August have been undertaken by Sunshine Coast multi award-winning builder Pandanus Constructions and project management for the Shearwater owners has been led by Kino Constructions. The works have been conducted on time and under budget.

Body Corporate chairman Lyle Dodwell says the Shearwater Body Corporate Committee has worked tirelessly over the past two years to deliver the major works to the 18-year-old building to create a more contemporary look and feel which enhances the prestige location it occupies on the northern end of the Kings Beach foreshore.

"The Shearwater Resort is a building in a premium location and to keep its desirability as the go-to place on the Sunshine Coast as a place to stay, dine, wine and unwind, it was imperative that we invested in the building's future and the ongoing comfort of the guests who choose to stay at Shearwater."

ULTIQA which manages the Shearwater Resort guest stays and is represented by onsite manager Philip Payne says these significant works over the winter period and fewer visitor stays due to the COVID restrictions have allowed them the time to implement improved guest stay experiences which they will be rolling out from 1 September onwards at the resort.

"We have a refreshed building, improved facilities and many of our apartments are being upgraded with new furniture inclusions. We're very excited with what Shearwater has to offer this spring and summer holiday season and going forwards to holiday makers coming to the Sunshine Coast," Philip Payne says.
